Bushbaby Blog gets a Liebster Award and Shares the Travel Blogger Love

Well imagine that. I’ve been nominated for a Liebster Award.

So I guess, in a way, I’m a REAL travel blogger now. Whoohoo! 😉
A big thanks to Stuart Parker from Capturing Africa Journeys (also the heart and soul behind This is KZN) for the nomination. It means a lot coming from you as I’m such a fan of your photography, blogging and especially of your passion and true love for South Africa and Africa as a whole. Your enthusiasm and dedication to giving African travel the authentic exposure it deserves is contagious and really inspiring.

Until it happened, I had no idea what a Liebster nomination was (which probably gives away my newbie blogger status but I’m ok with that.) Now that I’ve looked into it, I’m chuffed and very eager to keep the blog-loving chain going.

What is the Liebster Award?
Basically having your blog nominated for a Liebster Award is a virtual high-5 from your blogger peers and role-models.

It’s a public way for more recognised and established travel bloggers to acknowledge newer travel bloggers that they want to support through a little digital pat on the back.
Stuart explained The Liebster Award well in his blog about his recent nomination. He describes it as, “an online nomination award where established bloggers nominate new and upcoming bloggers who they feel are doing an excellent job in their blogging sphere and deserve the exposure.”

My Job as a Nominee

In acceptance of this wonderful gesture and award, I need to answer a few questions Stuart (Capturing Africa Journeys) has set out for me and nominate other bloggers who I follow and enjoy. They deserve the recognition and a high 5 too.
I then need to ask them a few questions of my own for them to answer and then nominate more bloggers to continue the series of blog-love.

Here it goes:

My Liebster Award Nominees

These bloggers make my heart happy when I gorge on their content. They also succeed in growing my travel-wish-list through sharing their stories and feeding my travel daydreaming obsession.

They have very different voices and interests that come through in their writing and pictures. They all inspire exploration in entertaining and informative ways of their own and we share a passion for African travel. I feel they all deserve more exposure, even though a few of them are well established already.

My Answers to the Questions Posed to Me:

1) What is your favourite travel destination?
Southern Africa is my ideal travel playground. Botswana is a favourite but I have a special adoration for our home country of South Africa. Lately we’ve been getting out to see some of the areas and provinces we haven’t met properly yet. Exploring hidden parts of the Eastern Cape, Garden Route and the Cape’s natural areas made me fall more in love with its diversity and natural beauty. Kruger is a firm favourite too. I am also constantly in awe of KZN too and make a point of discovering its natural gems and spots often. We are so blessed to live here.

2) What do you love most about travel?
That butterflies-in-my-tummy feeling when planning or embarking on a trip we’ve been looking forward to for a while. Travelling fills my soul. That’s how it makes me feel and it also connects me to the natural world and all its beauty. I just love getting out into a stunning, natural, remote setting we can explore and immerse ourselves in.

3) How long have you been blogging and what got you started?
I’ve been blogging on my personal blog for just over a year now, slowly but surely getting into it and trying to make time to do more of it. I love documenting travel experiences and sharing what we’ve seen and found and felt while out and about leisurely exploring for the sheer love of it. It’s a creative outlet and a way for me to feel that our experiences don’t just get forgotten once we get home and back into routine.
I wanted a place to be able to share these stories and I also wanted a place to be able to showcase some of my previously published blogs which I have contributed to other publications. That’s how Bushbaby Blog came about.

4) What’s been your biggest challenge with running your travel blog?
Finding time to actually do it justice and put the TLC into it that it deserves. There have been technical challenges too, requiring research and reaching out and learning how to get my blog to look good and work well from behind the scenes too. These technical learning challenges have been good and rewarding too though…for a non-techy.

5) Tell us more about your blog and what you hope to achieve with it?
Bushbaby Blog is my personal travel journal and a place for me to share and house some of our travel experiences, photos, great finds and recommendations as well as any stories or topics that interest me under the umbrella of African travel.

I hope to reach and inspire like-minded readers with that tingling inside for laid-back exploration and throwing themselves into the amazing natural parts of our continent.
